Take responsibility for your actions... or face the sack.

A mother and father were recently sent a letter signed by George White the deputy headmaster of the school their daughter attended.

The letter from Macclesfield High School bemoaned the girl's poor attendance and warned that unless she came to lessons Megan Gillan, 15, would be banned from the school's end-of-year prom.

Megan, the youngest of four sisters, was found dead at her home in Macclesfield, Cheshire, on 19 January.

The letter read: "Students must have at least 92 per cent attendance and Megan's is currently 60.4 per cent."

The headmaster Ged Ward blamed a computer system for the blunder and said in a mealy mouthed explanation: "Clearly that letter should not have gone out. I can only apologise to Megan's parents for the distress that it has caused. The letter was sent out to all year 11 parents regarding the school prom. We didn't think to check them."

Then you should have though to check them. Someone should have noticed. And someone should carry the can - either George White or Ged Ward should be sacked. The headmaster does not even have the balls to apologise properly - he blamed the computer system.

While the Gillan family are still coming to terms with their grief, this idiot is blaming a computer system.

Remember a few years back when a police van was found not to have a valid tax disc. The inspector blamed an administrative error. Next time the police stop you, blame it on an administrative error and see how far you get. What should have happened? The inspector should have been sacked.

If we start sacking people it might force them to take responsibility and get fewer instances like the one that upset the Gillan family.
